Global Investor/isf's Middle East Masterclass held yesterday in Dubai has been heralded as a success and revealed that stock borrow and loan can restore markets to health
Stock borrow and lending could play a key role in restoring the GCC markets to health, said Hugh Evans, Global Head of Access Products at HSBC, speaking at the Global Investor / isf 2010 Gulf Region Securities Finance Masterclass, held in Dubai. One year on from Lehmans, the markets are more optimistic but still in a nervous mood, and needing a boost to trading volumes that SBL could provide.
Trading volumes in the MENA markets are still dropping. Saudi Arabia has a turnover of $600 million, a third of last year’s level. The stock exchanges are anxious to expand but the regulators are favouring a cautious stance, given the current market...
