The US Securities and Exchange Commission has approved amendments to Investment Advisers Act after SEC commissioners voted 3-2 in favour of requiring private-fund advisers to register with the agency.
These rules will fill a key gap in the regulatory landscape, said Mary Schapiro, SEC chairman.
