Pimco adds to emerging markets equity team

Pimco has added five new professionals to its emerging markets equity team across London, New York and Singapore

Pimco has made the finishing touches to its emerging markets equity team with the hiring of five investment professionals.

John Longhurst joins as senior vice president and head of emerging markets equity research, while Goldman Sachs’ Richard Flax will be also be senior vice president and analyst for emerging markets equity. Both Longhurst and Flax will be based in Pimco’s London office.

In the US, Andrew Pyne and Laura Schlockman join the New York office as senior vice president and emerging markets equity product manager, and equity product manager, respectively. Raymond Goh will be based in Pimco’s Singapore office as an equity trader.

Longhurst was most recently a partner and global analyst at Capital International Research, and before that worked for UBS and James Capel. Flax moves from Goldman Sachs Asset Management where he was executive director of equity research.

Pyne also joins from Goldman Sachs where he was managing director and client portfolio manager, while Schlockman worked for as an equity product manager for Oppenheimer funds. Goh was most recently a trader at Capstone Investment Advisors.

Pimco is not the only firm beefing up its emerging market capability – Euromoney reports that Renaissance Capital (Rencap), has hired John Hyman as co-head of investment banking and financing.

Hyman, along with his co-head Andrew Cornthwaite, will develop of Rencap’s investment banking franchise in emerging and frontier markets, as well as in natural resources.

According to the report, Hyman’s hiring points towards the firm’s plans to further its growth strategy and develop a more complex company.
