Barings hires new COO

Baring Asset Management has appointed a new chief operating officer to replace John Misselbrook who will retire at the end of the year
Baring Asset Management has hired John Burns as chief operating officer (COO) following the departure of John Misselbrook, the firm announced today.
Misselbrook, who has been at Barings for a decade, will retire from his current position at the end of 2011.
Burns joins the firm from Visor Capital in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where he was COO.
In his new role at Barings, Burns will look after information technology, operations, human resources, legal, compliance, organisational risk, and business services and change management.
Prior to Visor Capital, Burns was head of Europe risk management at Fidelity International and before that he spent 10 years at Schroder Investment Management in Asia.
