Regulation is a positive when it focuses on improving disclosure. Anything that leads to a more educated investor, such as making the fund manager more accountable for accurately describing its products and risks, should be welcomed.

But, while none of the regulatory reform in the specific countries is extreme, when you stack them all up, the compliance burden becomes a challenge for global operators like us.

Secondly, regulators sometimes run the risk of thinking they know more than the market and the investor. There is a risk that, in their zeal to protect, they may limit investment opportunities and remove the incentives for asset managers to innovate and provide new products.
