Martin Bednall has joined FinEx ETF as managing director of exchange traded funds (ETFs).

The former BlackRock managing director will be responsible for ETF operations including portfolio management, product development and capital markets. One of Bednall’s goals will be to take the firm beyond the Russian ETF market which FinEx pioneered on the Moscow Exchange in 2013.

He will report to Simon Luhr, managing partner of FinEx Capital Management LLP.

Luhr said: “Martin has a wealth of talent and experience. He has managed complex multi-asset class transitions, integrated portfolio management businesses and was responsible for ETF product development at iShares. We are delighted he has joined our growing team.”

Bednall worked at BlackRock for 13 years, latterly as co-head of the iShares product team, responsible new product development and product management for the firm’s Emea exchange traded products.

Bednall’s LinkedIn profile states that he has worked as an independent asset management consultant since leaving BlackRock in April 2013.

Before iShares, he had a long career in transition management, working for both State Street and Barclays Global Investors.
