Jeremy Hill will be returning to Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) to take up the newly-created role of group general counsel later this year.

Hill will be responsible for legal services for both the trustee company and its wholly-owned subsidiary USS Investment Management.

“Hill’s position on the Group Executive Committee will enhance the executive team,” said Bill Galvin. “I have been hugely impressed by his wider experience and knowledge, as well as his intimate understanding of the unique context in which USS operates.”

Hill will be also be in charge of the scheme's governance and corporate secretariat functions as well as group compliance, member dispute resolution and internal audit.

He previously held the position of general counsel at USS between 2009 and 2011. Since then he has worked at Martin Currie when he joined in November 2011 as legal counsel and was appointed as chief compliance officer last year.

“Having played what I hope was a valuable role in building the in-house legal team for the investment management function, it is a pleasure to be able to return to the company as it continues to improve performance,” said Hill.
