HSBC has appointed Tony McDonnell as the new managing director of HSBC Securities Services (HSS) Ireland.

McDonnell  will be responsible for running the HSS operation in Ireland and growing its book of business. He will report to Arjun Bambawale, head of HSBC Securities Services, Europe.

“Ireland is a key market for HSS, reflecting the country’s increasing importance as a European hub for the funds management industry as a whole. Mc'Donnell's experience in our Irish and European business positions him well to develop and meet our growth plans in Ireland,” said Bambawale.

“The business has transformed in the time that I have been here and I look forward to leading us forward into the next phase. I believe that the funds industry here in Ireland can be a catalyst for significant economic growth in the coming years and it is my intention that HSSI be a key part of that,” said McDonnell.

McDonnell was previously regional head of asset managers for Europe and North America, sales and business development at HSBC Securities Services.

He joined HSBC Ireland in 2002, becoming head of business development for HSSI in 2007.
