BMO Financial Group has appointed David Sloper as Emea head of product management for its asset management business.

Sloper will join the BMO Global Asset Management Emea management committee as well as assuming responsibility for overseeing BMO Global Asset Management’s product range across the region and will drive product development in response to clients’ needs.

During over 15 years with the Bank of Montreal, Sloper has focused on managing trading and investment portfolios. Most recently he was responsible for managing the integration of F&C Investments and BMO Global Asset Management.

"Our business is in an exciting growth phase," said Richard Wilson, chief executive of BMO Global Asset Management (Emea). “David has an excellent overview of our global product range, having worked closely with our senior executives on the integration of F&C with BMO Global Asset Management."

Previously Sloper managed proprietary bond investment and trading units at BBL London Branch and at Abbey National Treasury Services.

Sloper replaces Martin Smith, who has spent 14 years with the firm. Smith will remain a member of BMO Global Asset Management’s Responsible Investment Advisory Council, which provides advice on ethical and sustainability criteria for the firm’s Responsible fund range.

“Martin has played a key role in ensuring our product range is fit for purpose and I am sure he will continue to play a valuable role on our Responsible Investment Advisory Council," said Wilson.
