OSC’s enforcement chief leaves for Hong Kong
The Ontario Securities Commission’s (OSC) director of enforcement,
Tom Atkinson, is leaving the firm for the Securities and Futures Commission of
Hong Kong.
Atkinson, who has been at the OSC since 2009, will take up a
similar enforcement role at the Hong Kong regulator.
OSC, which administers and enforces securities law in the Canadian
province of Ontario, said it will appoint a replacement in the coming
weeks.
Under Atkinson’s watch, the watchdog set-up a joint serious offences team to pursue more criminal cases and introduced first-in-Canada enforcement policies, including a proposed whistleblower program for securities regulation.
Maureen Jensen, chair and chief executive of the OSC, praised his work.
