Former Chi-X Global chief joins Nasdaq
Nasdaq has named Tal Cohen, the former of Chi-X Global boss, as head of its North American equities business, while Dan Kessous, former head of Chi-X Canada, will take over Nasdaq’s Canadian equities division.
The appointments follow Nasdaq's February purchase of the Canadian operations of Chi-X Global, which has expanded the firm's equities trading business beyond the Nordics and the US.
Chi-X Canada’s two stock trading platforms, which operate as alternative trading systems that have looser regulations than regular exchanges, will be renamed as NASDAQ CX and NASDAQ CX2.
According to reports, Nasdaq intends to seek regulatory approval to turn the two trading platforms into full stock exchanges once a technology upgrade has been completed.
Cohen will replace Walt Smith who will be reassigned as head of Nasdaq’s Global Access Services Business, which provides outsourced post-trade and exchange connectivity services.
