Bertrand Biragnet has joined the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS)’s investment arm as head of pan-European equities.

He replaces Ben Levenstein who moved internally to join the scheme’s new private markets group last year.

“Bertrand is a fantastic addition to the equities team; he has a broad range of experience as both a global and European equity fund manager and we are delighted to welcome him to USS, said Elizabeth Fernando, head of equities, USS Investment Management.

“His role is part of the ongoing development of our in-house investment team and the range of portfolios we manage for USS.”

Biragnet will manage a team of four individuals, which are responsible for around £11bn of the USS’s total £42bn in assets.

He joins from RIT Capital Partners where he was a global equity manager. Previously he held positions at Hermes Focus Asset Management and JP Morgan Asset Management, and also co-launched a long-short equity fund hosted by PCE Investors in 2009.
