AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) has appointed appointment of William Healey as global head of smart beta and UK head of buy and maintain and Philip Roantree as senior portfolio manager within AXA IM’s fixed-income team.

Based in London, Healy will report to Chris Iggo, cheif investment officer and head of Europe and Asia fixed income. Roantree will report to Healy.

“Both  bring with them strong fixed-income experience and will be valuable additions to our team. AXA IM has a long track record running buy and maintain strategies: managing portfolios which focus on long term value creation with limited turnover. We are seeing increased demand from clients for such strategies, in part as a result of higher transaction costs.”

Healy joins AXA IM from JPMorgan Asset Management where he was head of European high-yield debt for three years. From 2003 to 2011, Bill co-founded and led his own credit hedge fund firm Picus Capital Management.

Before this, he worked for Merrill Lynch Investment Management where he spent five years building their European and global high-yield product.

Roantree joins AXA IM from Morningstar where he was a fund analyst covering fixed-income and absolute-return funds. He was a partner and cheif investment officer at Querns Asset Managers from 2009 to 2012, responsible for managing the fixed income element of their portfolio.

Before this, Roantree was at New Star Asset Management managing the sterling bond fund which had been sold to New Star by Aberdeen as part of a reorganisation.
