F&C Investments, has appointed Howard Pearce as chair of its new Responsible Investment Advisory Council, effective January 1 2015.

The firm announced a re-launch of its responsible investment capability in June of this year. This includes a broad range of funds, from ethically-screened UK and global equity offerings through to thematic funds, screened fixed income and sustainability-orientated emerging market equities.

The fund range will be supported by the new and independent F&C Responsible Investment Advisory Council. The council will focus on providing advice on ethical and sustainability criteria, helping F&C maintain the integrity of the standards by which the funds are run.

“As chair of the council, Howard’s experience and insight will be vital to its work advising on ethical and sustainability criteria. We look forward to working closely with him over the coming years as we continue to maintain our position at the forefront of responsible investment," said Vicki Bakhshi, head of F&C’s governance and sustainable investment team.

“My aim will be to maintain the high level of integrity under which the responsible investment funds have operated for the last 30 years and to ensure they are at the cutting edge of emerging environment, social and governance issues,” said Howard Pearce, chair designate, F&C’s Responsible Investment Advisory Council.

Between 2003 and 2013 Pearce was the head of pension fund management for the Environment Agency Pension Fund (EAPF) and a member and principal advisor to its Pensions Committee.

During this period, Pearce made significant changes to the fund's governance, management, investments and reputation. Pearce has more than 25 years’ investment experience in the environment, leisure, IT, and water sectors and is also a non-executive director for a number of charitable and public bodies.

“The council will consist of experts across responsible investment, environmental, social and governance issues. We look forward to making further appointments of additional council members in the coming months,” added Bakhshi.
