Nikko Asset Management has launched the Luxemburg domiciled Japan Focus Equity UCITS Fund to be managed by senior fund manager Yuki Watanabe.

The new UCITS fund is based on a Japan domiciled strategy which is also run by Watanabe. Since Watanabe took over the fund in August 2012, the fund has returned 26.15% annually compared to a 21.24% annualised rise in the TOPIX Total Return Index.

The new fund aims for long-term growth through a portfolio of more than 30 stocks, with the investment team focussing on identifying long term structural trends and finding companies that are well-positioned to benefit from them.

“Our Japan Focus fund has been launched in response to investor demand for specialist expertise in actively managed investments in Japan,” said Watanabe.

According to the firm, the fund launch represents the second in a series of planned UCITS fund launches in the next few years.

Nikko AM launched its Asia ex-Japan UCITS fund in September 2015, and plans to grow its UCITS offering to include a broad range of exposures across both developed and emerging markets.
